Partnering With God in Worship–”Obedience & Application” Pt.2

(We pick up from last week’s teaching…Smilie: ;)

Wait on the Lord. Whether it be individually or in a corporate setting, we need to take time to tarry in His Presence. So often we hurry on to the next “thing” in our schedule or our services. We miss His heart and what He is trying to say to us. We need to listen with our spiritual ears to hear what He is saying. To see with our spiritual eyes to understand what He wants to release or activate. There have been many times I have felt the sadness of the Spirit of God because His Presence or His voice had been ignored. On several occasions I have stayed after a service was “over”, or waited a little longer in my personal time with Him because I felt His nudge and I lent myself to His prompting. These have been some of the most powerful times of Spirit-led worship, intercession and release. (Psalm 38:14-15, Psalm 130:5-6, Proverbs 8:34, Acts 1:4-5)

Be quiet and listen. In your private times with the Lord be quiet in His Presence and listen to what He is speaking to your heart. Put some “soaking” or instrumental worship music on, or just wait in silence, and listen to what He is saying, singing, declaring, or showing you. Then, release what He has spoken to you through song, shout, declaration, dance or other action. When in corporate worship the same principle applies. Be still and listen to what God is doing in and through the music, or in the silence. Sometimes I will stop singing and just listen. I start to hear what the instruments of Heaven are doing and will imitate them with my voice. Sometimes I will hear the heartbeat of God through the instruments and release that with my feet. I may hear a flow of words that God wants released on the earth and sing, shout, or declare those out. Many times this is accompanied by a dance or gesture that I see being released with those words. It is tuning into what God is doing in the moment and being His conduit on the earth! (Psalm 46:9-11, Psalm 131;1-3, Ecclesiastes 5:1, Isaiah 50:4-5)

Be motivated by the Fear of the Lord, and not the fear of man. The question that we need to continually ask ourselves is this; “Will I honor God with my obedience and actions regardless of what man thinks of me?” King David was a man who honored the Presence of the Lord above all and danced with ALL his might. The enemy tries to use intimidation as a roadblock to keep us from entering into our God-given destinies and purpose. Whether we are in a corporate setting, in the market place, or at home, He must be honored above all through obedience to His voice. (Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 19:23, Proverbs 22:4)

“Father, what You have to say is more important to us than any of the other voices that try to compete for our attention. That our hearts would be ready to hear, delight in, and obey the words that you speak to us. That we would be Your instruments of praise and conduits of power in this world. With all our loyalty to You, Mighty God!”

Partnering With God in Worship–”Obedience & Application” Pt. 1

So what does our obedience to His leading in worship look like? The dynamics may vary on how you see, hear, or apply the Holy Spirit’s leading based on your position as a worship leader, as a worship team, or a gathering of worshipers in a corporate setting. But living out this truth is meant first and foremost for your private time of worship with your Creator and King! He is wanting to effect change in your sphere of influence. Again, it is living in the moment with Him. It is loving and intimately knowing Him. It is walking with Him in the cool of the day. There is a birthing that takes place as a result of our relationship with Him. It is a co-creating with the King of Glory! Beautiful Jesus! Glorious Lord! Wonderful Father!

As worshipers, there are some practical applications to help you lay hold of these spiritual truths we have been talking about for the past few weeks, and begin to hear what Father God and Heaven wants to release through you:

–First things first! I gratefully remember Saturday night intercession at our church a few years ago. The leading of Holy Spirit was to pray over the chairs in the sanctuary and ask the Lord for a specific word He had for people who would sit in the chairs He was highlighting. There was a note from the Lord for me in the seat I choseSmilie: :). These words have become increasingly vital over the years of leading worship and being in ministry. It was a very simple phrase written on the paper: Keep the first things first. What is the first thing, always? JESUS IS ALWAYS FIRST!! (Reading through the book of Hebrews and the four Gospels is an excellent way to refocus your gaze onto Jesus.) He is the One we worship. We don’t worship worship. We don’t worship technique or talent. We don’t worship the gifts that He gives. We don’t worship the keys or the strategies He has placed in our hands. Although these are all very good and apart of the Kingdom that is given to us from our Papa God, there is only One who deserves ALL the praise, glory, and honor!

–Intimacy in His Word. I have had the privilege of being involved in a relationship course recently where the word “intimacy” was explained as “in to me see”. As we spend time communing with God in His Word, we “in to Him see!” He has written His love letter to us, inviting us to look into His heart and discover His love, His motives, His desires, His beauty, His joy, His pleasures, His purposes, His passion, His life, His longing…for us. Knowing Him in His Word is absolutely foundational. (I would encourage you to read Psalm 119 to get a view and an understanding of the riches of knowing God through His Word.) When we set that special time to draw away with our Beloved in His Word and ask Holy Spirit to reveal to us the truths that we need to see; His heart, His Kingdom, and the magnitude of His purpose for us come to light. It is so exciting to experience God through His Word as He unravels the mysteries of His heart to us!! In Ephesians 1:17 when Paul is praying that we would KNOW Him, it is this intimate knowledge of the heart that this word KNOW translates into. It is not a “head” knowledge (to know about someone), it is a “heart” knowledge (to intimately know someone). We “in to Him see” as we relational-ly experience Him in His Word, in worship, and in waiting on Him.

**Next week we will cover three more areas of “obedience and application” in this partnership with our God and King.

My prayer is that the Light of His countenance will shine on you this week as you seek and pursue His heart. That your desire for Him will multiply and increase as you spend time with Him. That His Presence will surround you as you draw close to Him. That in His Presence you find fullness of joy and fulfillment in purpose.

Partnering With God in Worship–”Purpose and Heavenly Strategies”

Prophetic worship or declaration is released with purpose and Heavenly strategy. Like an arrow, it propels Kingdom provision toward the target to where it is sent. It DOES NOT miss its mark because it is HIS Word!! (Isaiah 55:8-11…Really, read Isaiah 55 in its entirety.)

God is searching the earth to find those who will worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24), and bring His Light, His Love, His Word, and His Truth to His creation that is held in captivity to darkness. A peculiar and courageous people who will go by the leading of the Spirit of God where “no man has gone before!” (Exodus 19:5-6, 1 Peter 2:9 KJV) It always blows me away at what He can accomplish through us if we will just listen and obey. (Regardless of if it makes sense to our natural mind or not!) There are so many Heaven-opening, atmosphere-shifting, life-altering adventures with Him that I could expound on, but suffice it to say that the times I have stepped out on my own, the fruit is dry and withered, and the productivity is severely lacking.

I have had the amazing privilege of releasing Papa God’s heart through spontaneous song and prophetic worship, or action, over individuals, gatherings of people, my community, my state, my nation, people groups, governments and societies, lands and creation, and the nations of the world.

The workings of the Spirit of God are not bound by time or distance, and like I stated earlier, are very strategic. As we partner with the Spirit of God and His strategies, we will release His prophetic song and declaration from a variety of locations.

Through obedience to His voice, promptings of His Spirit, Divine connections and Divine orchestration, not only I as an individual, but us as a team, have been led to go on assignment and release spontaneous songs, prophetic worship/declaration, and worship intercession from: *homes,  *cars as we are led to drive around a certain area,  *roadsides,  *neighborhoods,  *landmarks,  *hilltops,  *our state capitol building,  *the chambers of the Senate and House of Representatives located at our state capitol building,   *prayer gatherings,  *worship gatherings,  and the list goes on!

(If you need to, review the teaching a couple of weeks ago on Prophetic Worship in the Bible Pt.1 –”Nothing New” )

Even as this article is going out, we are preparing to go on strategic assignment with teams of worshipers and intercessors to the main parks in our community. We will be releasing praise to King Jesus; preparing the way for His Kingdom, His work, and His will to be done in this community, and area! (2 Chronicles 20:13-24, Psalm 24:7-10, Acts 16:25-26)

“King Jesus, we are Your ambassadors to bring Your Kingdom to this earth. Here we are…we are Yours…we are Your vessels…we are Your glory carriers…we are Your army…we are Your light & Your salt in the earth. We incline our ears to hear and our hearts to obey. We humble ourselves before You, Commander of the army of God. We thank You for the honor of entrusting us with the keys and Heavenly strategies of the Kingdom. To the glory of the Father and the King, forever!”

“King of Glory–Have Your Glory!”

I will continue the teaching on “Partnering with God in Worship” through Spontaneous Song and Prophetic Worship next week. But this week, we need to exalt and lift Jesus high, through our praise to His Name and declarations to His glory!!!!

“Jesus, King of Glory, be glorified today! Have YOUR glory!! Be high and lifted up in our praises! Be high and lifted up in ALL the earth as your people give You glory and honor through the fruit of our lips. That YOU would be high and lifted up and ALL men would be drawn to YOU!

That the nations of the earth would see You for who You are, and would be drawn into the Presence of the One and Only King of all creation! That their hearts would yearn to know You–YOU Jesus–The Desire of the nations, The Cry of our hearts! That they would have eyes to see, and ears to hear, and a heart to understand the vast, incredible, extravagant, all-consuming Love that You are for them. That they would be liberated by that Love, and that they would KNOW You. That they would KNOW YOU, Jesus!  No eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor has entered into the heart of man the things that You have prepared for him/them who love You and are called according to Your good purposes–Lord, that they would see and hear You calling them by name–that they would answer Your call and that the understanding would enter their hearts of Your good pleasure in them, and Your destiny for their lives!

JESUS, You are The Rock, our Fortress, our Deliverer, our Hope, our Healer, our Salvation, our Strongtower, our Truth, our Refuge, our Light, our Love, our Freedom, our Destiny, our Future, our Eternity, our EVERYTHING! Be seen, Jesus! Be glorified, Jesus! Radiant King, Beautiful Savior, Glorious Lord, Eternal Flame, Light of the world, Hope of the nations, Lover of our souls, Father to the fatherless, Husband to the widow, Song of our hearts, Strength in our weakness, Joy in every circumstance, Reigning Righteous King forever and ever!!

Our hearts rejoice in YOU this day and our lips will forever praise YOUR Name!! We love YOU King Jesus with ALL our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength! Let EVERY breath in us praise You, Lord!!”

Prophetic Worship in the Bible–Pt. 2 “Jesus, Our Example”

I was pondering on our obedience to God’s voice in the moment He speaks, and how that not only confuses the enemies of God, but dismantles their work. I was thinking of all the accounts in scripture where this swift obedience to God was to the destruction of satan’s work. Remember, we do not battle against flesh and blood. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that our warfare is against the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Then, Holy Spirit brought to my mind the most amazing example in scripture of a life totally abandoned in worship to the will of the Father. Before Jesus went to the cross to pay the price for all mankind to be reconciled to the Father, He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Father, not my will, but Yours be done.” (Matthew 6:39)  In obedience to the Father’s will, the Lord of glory offered Himself a living sacrifice. The devil and the hordes of hell thought they had defeated the Son of God and the expansion of God’s Kingdom. Talk about the enemy being caught off guard! (Colossians 2:15) They didn’t see what was coming! If they had known what this holy sacrifice would mean, they never would have crucified the Lord of glory! (1 Corinthians 2:6-Smilie: 8) Because of Jesus’ obedience, the Kingdom of Heaven was not only brought to this earth by Jesus Himself, but now the whole globe is covered with His followers–bringing His creation into the freedom and the glory of the Kingdom of God! (Romans 8:18-23)

Will we obey the promptings of God’s Spirit even if it doesn’t make sense to our natural minds? Will we step out in trust like Jesus did? Will we step out like those people of faith mentioned throughout the Word of God? They were radical in their faith, obedience, and worship. They undermined the work of the enemy and expanded their Father’s Kingdom. Let us be challenged to do the same out of radical obedience!

“Papa God, we abandon ourselves to Your will and to the work of Your hands. That our mouth would declare Your praises and our lives would be a living sacrifice in obedience to Your leading.(Romans 12:1-2) Father, not our will, but Your will be done.”

Prophetic Worship in the Bible–Pt. 1 “Nothing New”

Prophetic declaration and action through worship is nothing new. Prophetic worship is weaved throughout the Old Testament. To name just a few: Moses replicating the Heavenly Tabernacle on the earth as God had shown and instructed him.(Exodus 24-40) Gideon defeating the Midianites. (Judges 7) The fall of the walls of Jericho.(Joshua 5-6) The victory of King Jehoshaphat and the Israelites. (2 Chronicles 20) The Book of Psalms is packed full of prophetic prayer, praise, and declaration.

One of my favorite examples of obedience to God in worship in the Bible, is the account of King Jehosaphat and the children of Israel listed in 2 Chronicles 20. They obeyed the word of the Lord and took up their positions of worship and praise.

In this account, the singers went ahead of the army of God declaring His praises. What a beautiful picture of pure trust and obedience to God as they wielded their weapon of praise. As they began to praise, the Lord set ambushes against their enemies. The enemy armies actually turned on each other, so that when the men from Judah came to the place that overlooked the desert and looked toward the vast army, they say only dead bodies lying on the ground; no one had escaped! Their position was a position of praise that defeated the enemy. One of our greatest weapons of warfare is praise, and as we release it, all of Heaven is unleashed on the enemies camp!

Another well-known victory that came through prophetic worship is the story of Joshua and God’s people at Jericho. The children of Israel were going into take the land that God had promised to them, and the journey had been one of incredible strides of faith. (Please read the book of Joshua to get a full understanding of the magnitude of this partnership between God and His children.)

Joshua was given specific instructions by a Heavenly Messenger, the Commander (or Prince) of the army of the Lord, to take Jericho. The children of Israel were to march around the city once for six days in silence with only the trumpet of the ram’s horns sounding. Then on the seventh day they were to march around the city seven times. On the seventh time, with the long blast of the trumpets, they were to give a great shout. Joshua told the people, “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!” As the sound of the trumpets and the great shout resounded in unison, the wall of Jericho fell down in its place!

This was an act of Heavenly strategy released through prophetic worship. (Partnership between God and His people!) It didn’t make any sense to the natural mind, but their trust was in the Lord. They responded to His word in faith through obedience, and they took the land promised to them! We have the very same opportunity to partner with King Jesus today and take the land that He has promised us; the land of our families, marriages, children, neighborhoods, cities, nation and world for the Kingdom of God!

Victory would have been lost in both of these accounts if they had chose comfort, convenience, or fear of the unknown over their simple trust in an all-powerful and good Father. They did not allow the voices of the fear of man, or their own rational to get in the way. No, the fear of the Lord was their beginning of wisdom, and they overcame through obedience to His Voice.

Spontaneous Song & Prophetic Worship–Pt. 4 “Abandoned to God”

“You have unlimited access to the Throne of God because you have learned to bow your knee.”   Debbie Fritch (AZ Prayer)

How do we approach the Throne of God, hear His heart and partner with Him in worship? Remember what I stated a few days back, we need to lay down preconceived ideas, our traditions, and our past comfort zones in worship to abandon who we are, and what we think we know, to the Spirit of God. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

The above quote is a word that was spoken over me by Debbie Fritch from AZ Prayer at a worship and prayer gathering in Buhl, Idaho. I believe that this word can describe any and all who will abandon their lives in submission to the will and heart of the Father.

Spontaneous Song and Prophetic Worship goes beyond the written sheet (or learned) music. It goes beyond the words projected on a screen. This Spirit-led worship goes beyond what the natural mind can come up with and understand on it’s own. When we abandon ourselves to His leading and become united with Him in that moment, we have partnered with Him and are about our Father’s business. There is no striving in it. Jesus said that He only did what He saw His Father doing, and that He would only speak what He heard His Father speaking. (John 5:19,30, John 8:28-29) Once again, Jesus, our perfect example! We are also sons and daughters of God who are led by the Spirit of God; by which we cry, “Abba, Father”! (Romans 8:14-17, John 16:13-15)

In our worship team we have endearingly coined the phrase, “flying by the seat of our pants club”.  Although it is not flying by the seat of our pants, but by the hem of His garment Smilie: :). We are “flying” (being led) by the sound of His voice and by the look of His eyes—by Holy Spirit. We put our full trust in Him to lead us where He is going, and then we follow. As I have stated before, following the Spirit of God in the moment sends the enemy’s camp into confusion—they don’t know what’s coming. It is God’s Word and His work in the moment. Heaven is released in these moments of trust and obedience to our God.

What does it sound like, look like, feel like, and act like to follow the Spirit with this abandoned worship and obedience to the Living God? For worship leaders, worship teams, and worshipers at large it starts with abandonment to Him in worship. (John 4:23-24, Mark 12:30)

When we abandon ourselves to His leading we are expressing that faith and trust in Him. We know that without faith it is impossible to please God, and that faith without works is dead. (Hebrews 11:6, James 2:17) So we put action to what we are seeing and hearing by His Spirit. By faith, it is taking the first step as Holy Spirit directs you and submit to His leading. By faith, it is imitating what you are seeing or hearing from Him in that moment. By faith, it is giving voice to the sounds, songs, and declarations of Heaven. By faith, it is giving action to prophetic gestures or dance. By faith we take hold of the unseen of what is happening in Heaven and bring it to earth. Hebrews 11:3 tells us that what is seen was created by the unseen, the invisible. By the command (the Word) of God the universe was formed—His voice released in the earth by His Spirit is a creative force. (Read Genesis 1:1-2!)

“Our Father in Heaven, holy be Your Name. Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. That we would have the heartbeat of You, Father God. That we would be the vessels You can pour through on this earth. That we lend ourselves to Your work though us, Spirit of the Living God.”

Spontaneous Song & Prophetic Worship–Pt. 3 “In the Moment”

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been discussing how prophetic worship is one of the ways intimate interaction, partnership, and union with our God is expressed and released. Prophetic worship is seeing what Heaven is doing, hearing the songs and sounds that are happening around the Throne of God, and having impressions of actions that need to take place, or words that need to be declared, to release God’s Voice in the earth. Then by faith, we release those songs, sounds, declarations, and actions in this earthly realm. It is the release of what God, King Jesus, Holy Spirit, and Heaven are doing at that very moment. It is literally living in the moment with Him!

Our greatest example of someone living in the moment at all times with the Father, and prophetic release in the earth, is the life of our Lord and King, Jesus Christ. He continually heard the Voice of His Father and saw what His Father was doing in Heaven, and responded accordingly. (John 5:19) Every word and every action was an immediate response of obedience to the Voice of His Father. Read the beautiful and powerful prayer that Jesus prayers for His disciples (that’s us too) to walk in this same union with Him and the Father in John 17:6-26. Just as Jesus, we need to be careful how we live, making the most of every opportunity. We need to understand what the Lord’s will is by being filled with the Spirit and listening to His Voice. It’s out of this understanding we speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. (Ephesians 5:15-19)

When the revelatory word of the Lord is released through song, dance, declaration, art, or action in the moment the Spirit of God brings it to us, this is when it becomes prophetic worship. The Voice of the Lord is declaring something over the people, community, region, or nation through the intimate connection of our worship to Him.

Prophetic worship is one of the greatest keys and strategies that God has given us to partner with Him in the pulling down of strongholds, and releasing His Kingdom on the earth. The spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms are “caught off guard” because they don’t see what’s coming, and the Kingdom of Heaven is opened over God’s creation! (In a couple of weeks, we will look at more examples from the Bible of prophetic worship and release.)

“Father, God of all creation, that we would have spiritual eyes to see and spiritual  ears to hear what it is that You are doing and saying. That we would not be dull in our understanding, but that our hearts would understand what Your will is and we would respond to Your voice in the moment—making the most of every opportunity!”

Spontaneous Song & Prophetic Worship–Pt.2 “Worship Intercession”

Another door of entering into prophetic worship is through intercession. When we have come to meet with God for the sole purpose of drawing close to His heart to hear what He is saying, He will pour His heart, knowledge and wisdom through us.(Hebrews 10:15-22) Relationship, relationship, relationship.(Romans 8:13-17) We pray and speak those things that are coming directly from the Spirit of God, and not our own intellect or assumption.(Romans 8:26-27) So many times, this is where we have the opportunity to prophesy what God is speaking–what He wants to release in the earth. He brings societal change, tears down walls of the enemy in people’s lives, cities, and nations, and sets the captives free from the bonds of hell through the Word of God spoken and released through our lips! (Will we choose to be obedient, or comfortable?)

We also need to lend ourselves to the Spirit of God even in our times of waiting before Him in silence–especially as we wait before Him in silence. This avenue can be one of the most productive times of prophetic release, because our minds are quiet and our hearts are open to receive what His is speaking in this place with Him.(Psalm 130:5-6)

We have come into union with His heart, His purposes, and strategies. If we are willing, He will release the words and actions of His heart through us to this world that He loves! This is why I often refer to prophetic worship as worship intercession. As we are seated with Christ Jesus in Heavenly realms, we have the opportunity to intercede with Him and release the fruit of it in the earth.(Ephesians 2:6) You begin to see with the eyes of the Father, hear with your spiritual ears, and do what you see Heaven doing in that moment. He will show you things in this place of worship intercession that you have not yet seen, and you have the privilege to be able to partner with Him to sing and declare songs of deliverance, freedom, and salvation over peoples and nations. This prophetic word that is released through your worship will not come back empty, but it will accomplish what God has sent it to do because it is HIS word declared through you. Atmospheres of entire cities changed and destinies re-routed for eternity! (Isaiah 55:8-11)

“Father, we ask for forgiveness for striving under our own ideas, assumptions, and strength. We want the fruit of Your Spirit to abound in our lives, and the lives You have entrusted us to intercede for. By Your Word, by Your Spirit, to Your glory.”

Partnering With God in Worship–”Spontaneous Song & Prophetic Worship” Pt.1

Although, both spontaneous song and prophetic worship have the ability to shift atmospheres and re-route situations as they are released, they affect change in different ways.

We release spontaneous song, prompted by the Spirit of God inside of us, as we are hearing a flow of words that come out of the overflow of what is contained in our hearts(Luke 6:43-45), and/or hearing a musical melody from heaven. More often than not, it is the abundant overflow from out hearts (or spirit man) that is activated as we hear with our spiritual ears the music of Heaven. (This usually happens within a worship setting, whether private or corporate.) Then with our mouths we release the supernatural songs of Heaven, bringing with them an atmosphere of creativity and life, intimacy with our God and impossibilities made tangible. One of the most powerful, real, and intimate moments with our Father is when we release the song of our heart to Him and for Him–songs of praise, worship, thanksgiving, and adoration to the God of the universe and the King of Glory!

It is accurate to say that spontaneous song and prophetic worship are two different quivers on the same arrow. Although, spontaneous songs is one of the main doors that has the potential of leading us into prophetic worship. Really, the choice is up to us of how deep we want to partner with Him in these times of encounter and intimate exchange. (Romans 8:26-27) It’s in these moments of potential abandonment to Him and His will that we need to ask ourselves if we are more concerned about what others think (even ourselves!), or about pleasing the heart of the Father.

Also, spontaneous song may be in the form of our heavenly tongue, or prayer language. Many times I will begin to sing in my heavenly tongue and the interpretation begins to flow in English. This is where we often cross over into prophetic song and worship intercession. The interpretation may be releasing the words or voice of God over a person, a people group, area, or a situation; bringing encouragement, instruction, knowledge, freedom, and change.

Next week we will talk more about prophetic worship through intercession and what that looks like.
